What do all these photos have in common? Stormwater! 💧

During rainy days🌧️, have you wondered where does the water go?🧐 If you are a resident of the Fairfield or Suisun area, stormwater goes out into the Suisun Marsh!🌅

Stormwater is not treated or filtered when it enters our storm drains, it's important to understand this and how it flows into our waterways.

Here are some of the many ways you can actively prevent water pollution:

- Keep garbage and recycling cans tightly covered to prevent litter from being scattered. 🗑️
- Pick up 🐶 💩 left on lawns, streets, and on side walks. Pet waste has many nutrients that are harmful to aquatic life. 🐠
- If you change your own 🚗 oil, recycle it ♻️ (and the filter) with your local curbside pickup program.

What is a Wetland Delineation?🧐
Wetland delineations are analyses that determine the boundaries of wetlands and uplands 🏞️ They are used to better understand the wetland and several aspects like the hydrology 💧, the soil and vegetation within it🌾. There is so much diversity within our watershed, it's important to understand it and know how to best manage it when working with it👷‍♀️. The Kellogg Resiliency Project team conducted a wetland delineation this past December and is on track with the Phase 1 project timeline. We ask community members, residents and visitors of the Suisun Marina and other recreational areas near the project site to please complete our survey. We want to hear from you! ✅

Trying to start the New Year with healthy habits for you and your garden? 🥳 Implement a habit of cutting, removing, or pulling weeds - gardening is way to exercise and ‘meditate in motion’ while making your yard look great! 🪴
The most effective way to manage weeds is to remove them when they first emerge and continue to do so every time they start to appear, it is easier to remove them when they are small and the soil is moist. 🌱
If there are weeds in your garden that have been there for a while and don't seem to go anywhere, start by cutting ✂️the plant down and covering it with a layer of mulch 🫣-- Weeds thrive best in bare soils with lots of light ☀️ keep the soil covered to prevent them from growing and expanding further in your garden 🌸 . This holiday season, make sure you are properly discarding FOG content by collecting it in a jar and dropping it off at your nearest collection center.♻️
FOGs are detrimental to our sewer collection systems ❌and can pose serious damage to our pipes and affect our wastewater treatment process as these contents solidify on the inner surface areas of the sewer pipes over time. ⚠️

Please collect your FOG content in a jar or a container and drop it off at your nearest collection center.👍

If you are a resident of Suisun City, a frequent visitor of the Suisun Marina⛵️, or a nature enthusiast 🌱that visits ecological reserves like the Peytonia Slough, then check this out!

FSSD along with Suisun City are working on a project aimed at adapting to climate change impacts like flood 🌊 and fire 🔥 on Kellogg Street.

This site has been witness to the devastating effects of fire and is susceptible to future sea level rise in the coming years.

We need your input to shape the types of infrastructure needed in this project to protect homes and the environment in the future. Residents and community members can complete the survey (link in bio) and provide contact information to learn more about this project ways you can engage in our efforts.

Joga Chizer had no kind of background for the clean-water industry. As an immigrant, he wanted a job. He found an opportunity in an interesting field, and he made a career of it.
